Sooooo....there is going to be a biopic based on the film Jud Suss starring Moritz Bleibtreu, the man who played Lola's boyfriend in Run Lola Run. He plays Joseph Goebbels, apparently. Oh, and I just realized, I missed the Waco documentary because I was sick. Oops!

Today I saw a film called "the Murderers are Among Us" which is a film that was released the day before the Nuremberg executions in 1946. It was released as a "Rubble film" (or film that explicitly shows the damage done in WWII to Germany). it was really interesting because after watching examples of Nazi entertainment films and propaganda pieces we watched a film that starred an actual member of the Nazi party being part of a film condemning what the Nazi party had done. I suggest people check it out (if you one person that reads my posts have netflix instant watch, it's on there.) because it is very well acted, there are fantastic shots, and it is just all in all an interesting film with a strange history. I say strange because at the time the allies (sans USSR) were only allowing the Germans to show Nazi escapist films, American comedies, and concentration camp footage to show people the atrocities that had occurred in the past 12 years under third reich reign. Basically, Germans weren't allowed to make movies until the Soviet Union allowed them to do so. It is bizarre also in that they show a former Nazi officer later on becoming a capitalist industrialist. Really, check it out! DO IT!

on the 28th, apparently my friend is DJing for Neon Indian and Hawnay Troof. I just started listening to them and they're pretty good. I can't wait to see them! I'm done with this post. over and out.

Right now i'm listening to this compilation album based around this record label from the late 70s and lasted up until 1981. It's called Object Music (the full album is "Auteur Labels: Object Music 1978-1981") and i guess the label was started by members of the fall and there were a bunch of art punk bands out of manchester that were the basis for the record label. I just came across it as a fluke because I was trying to look up the Factory Benelux discography and all of a sudden these Auteur Labels records came up and I couldn't find a whole lot about the Object Music label so I went on soulseek and downloaded it and now I'm listening to it on my iPod. So far it is pretty interesting. As mentioned earlier, there is also a Factory Benelux (the more central Europe based offshoot of Factory records, based in Belgium), Factory Records (which had a lot of bands that I had never heard before. Not like ACR or New Order or Joy Division, but bands like Quando Quango and Section 25), Les Disques du Crepuscule (another central European offshoot of Factory Benelux), and New Hormones records (Manchester label that released Buzzcocks amongst many other bands from the area). A lot of the songs on the Object Music one have a power-pop agenda to them and that's kind of cool.

today i witnessed the film Jud Suss by Harlan Veit. It is a propaganda piece that the Nazis used to train the SS to capture jewish people during the third reich. It is about a real jewish man that lived from 1698-1738 named Joseph Oppenheimer (his nickname was Susskind which means sweet child in German). This man was the financial advisor to Duke Karl Alexander and was tried by an anti-semitic people in the 18th century that believed the man was taking their money and decided to demonize this man and use his story to further denigrate a people that obviously did not deserve to be denigrated. Anyway, the film was directed in 1940, a year that had been a year on the Nazi ban on foreign cinema that would last 5 more years. The German people would see escapist films such as 'Munchausen' and 'Titanic,' comedies, and propaganda pieces such as 'Jud Suss,' 'Hitlerjunge Quex,' 'Kolber,' and many more for all that time. It remains obvious why the government at that time would not allow foreign films to be shown during that time and even 20 years after that, in the 1960s the film "I Am Curious: Yellow" was confiscated by the border control because of a penis too close to a girls mouth, many of Godard's pieces had not been released for several years after they were released in France, White Dog by Samuel Fuller ended his career because of the fact that many people believed it, and HE were both racist, and many other things that fall under the censorship banner. I just want to say that we have freedom of speech and that there is probably some fantastic film I am not seeing right now, but instead I am watching "There's Something About Mary" on FX. The Nazis censored, burned The Rules of the Game by Jean Renoir, blah blah blah, and we showed limited runs of other films (like the Baader-Meinhof Complex). It's just ridiculous the things we censor in order to pacify the masses. End rant.
