Last night had a dream about going being in high school all over again and there was a german shepherd barking that was only angry at me and then animal control had to come by and I was supposed to perform a solo in a choir concert and then I had the idea that I should tell everyone at the concert that it was unfair that animal control had to come by because it was angry only at me and that they would put down this dog. In some ways this made me think of the Samuel Fuller film "White Dog" except in that movie, the dog was only angry at African Americans. The thing was, the choir instructor had the choir sing when I was going to give my speech. I was so angry at everyone that I started destroying all of the speakers and microphones. Basically, this should be a livejournal post, but I wanted to write it somewhere. Actually, fuck livejournal. My choir teacher was a bitch, though. She had us sing at her mother's funeral and afterward she sent us a bizarre thank you card with a picture of her mother with oxygen tubes up her nose. It was disturbing. Anyway, done.

Autour d'Une Cabine

The first cartoon created by Emile Reynaud. Oringinally a science teacher, he created the Praxinoscope, a successor to the Zoetrope. After this, he created Theatre Optique, capable of using longer rolls of pictures. The Lumiere Brothers eventually trumped both of these inventions when they popularized moving photographic images. The Red Raven Magic Mirror was one of the last carousel type moving picture device to be popularized. This device was not, however produced by Reynaud.

exquisite decay

For your listening pleasure: Ellen Allien- Bim. For the past two years I've missed Ms. Allien play in this area. Last year she played DEMF and I think I opted on seeing someone else (big mistake on my behalf...it apparently was awesome). Then, this year, she played a $15 concert at the magic stick. Simple reason for missing that one was that I have no money at all to go see shows that cost $15. This is why I volunteer for festivals. This past weekend was ridiculous (bike was stolen, had to walk everywhere, had to deal with a ton of tools at Movement 2010, since the invasion of Jersey Shore tools took place, etc.) I did, however, see a bunch of really great acts including Plastikman, Inner City, Derrick May, Theo Parrish, and Model 500. Model 500 being my favorite of the festival. Anyway, enjoy.

Last night I went to a lecture by the artist Matthew Barney at the Detroit Institute of Arts. One of the topics that he drew from in his current work was a piece by the artist James Lee Byars. Interestingly enough, the portion of the film that draws from this particular work was shot in Detroit (birthplace of James Lee Byars).
